Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical found in the Cannabis sativa plant, also called Marijuana or hemp; more than 100 organic compounds, identified as cannabinoids, have been identified in the cannabis genus. There might be several different health benefits for those who use CBD.

Although delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and CBD are presently the
most researched cannabinoids, there are also many others that fall within the scope of medical cannabis, such as: cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabidivarin (CBDV), and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV), etc.

In 1940, Roger Adams discovered CBD and successfully extracted it from the cannabis plant. CBD is a major phytocannabinoid in cannabis, accounting for up to 40% of the plant’s total cannabinoid content. Even though THC is the most prevalent active ingredient in marijuana, cannabidiol is also obtained from hemp. Hemp derived products contain minimal THC amounts, less than 0.3% by dry weight.

Tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol are just two types of cannabinoids found naturally in the resin of marijuana plants, both of which interact with the endocannabinoid receptors that are found throughout mammalian bodies. Several CBD oils can contain both THC and CBD.

There are now many studies concerning CBD attempting to solve many unanswered questions. The overwhelming consensus is that CBD is a safe compound, with no serious negative side effects. As such, the licensing of CBD in pharmaceuticals is seen as inevitable. This is just a matter of time.

HOW DOES CBD Work in Our Bodies?

The exact method of action of CBD on the body is not fully understood. However, it is known that CBD acts on cannabinoid (CB) receptors in the endocannabinoid system.

These are found in numerous areas of the body, spread in a network throughout the peripheral and central nervous systems. This system regulates many physiological responses, including: chronic pain, memory, appetite, and mood.

Cannabidiol has many effects on the body. It is understood to prevent the breakdown of neurochemicals responsible for pain, mood, and mental function. Preventing this breakdown, while increasing blood flow, seems to reduce mental disorders such as schizophrenia. CBD oil might also block some of the psychoactive effects of THC.

Although its exact medical implications are currently being investigated, CBD has shown promise as a therapeutic and pharmaceutical drug target. As reported from the research, some of the cannabidiol extracts sold online have possible therapeutic benefits include, but are not limited to, the following:

a. Anti-Seizures Effects

Several studies over the past two decades, have reported that CBD demonstrates anti-seizure activity; reducing the severity of test animal seizures.

b. Anti-Anxiety Effects

Recent reports show CBD has therapeutic efficacy in a range of animal models on anxiety disorders and stress; reducing behavioral and physiological (e.g., heart rate) measures of stress and anxiety. It has also shown efficacy in reducing anxiety in patients with social anxiety experiments, such as a stressful public speaking task.

c. Anti-Tumor Effects

There are pre-clinical reports on the use of CBD in treating tumors. The results affirmed a causal link between CBD and: reduced cell viability in dangerous cells, increased cell death rate, decreased tumor growth, and metastasis inhibition.

d. Anti-Psychotic Effects

While Marijuana can produce acute psychotic episodes at high doses, research suggests that CBD may mitigate these effects.

Additionally, there have been several small-scale clinical trials in which patients with psychotic symptoms, not associated with marijuana, were treated with

E. Neuropathic Pain

One of the most popular methods for using CBD is to treat nerve pain. This occurs by blocking sensory pathways at the axion of the nerve structure.

1. Taking CBD with a meal that is rich in fat increases the amount of CBD that is then absorbed by the body. This is liable to increase the effects of CBD.

2. Taking CBD may result in drowsiness or sleepiness. Using it along with other herbs and supplements with these same effects might cause too much drowsiness.

3. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Epidiolex as a prescription drug which uses CBD. Other FDA approved drugs should be coming soon. That said, the FDA still hasn’t approved CBD for use as dietary supplements.
